Professor Brenda Wilson was appointed Chief Executive, Cancer Council SA in February 2004. She has an extensive background in the field of health care management and service delivery.

As a strategically minded and innovative leader, Professor Wilson possesses enthusiasm, energy and the ability to engage stakeholders and translate strategy into actions and results.

Previous appointments include Executive Director, Nursing and Patient Services, Flinders Medical Centre; Chief Executive Hampstead Centre and Director of Nursing and Patient Services Lyell McEwin Health Service.

As Chief Executive, Cancer Council SA, Professor Wilson strives to maintain strong relationships with the community, government, the corporate sector and other healthcare agencies which are instrumental to the success of a community-based organisation. She has developed many partnerships and alliances to improve the health care of all South Australians.

Professor Wilson has been instrumental in translating Cancer Council SA’s mission to beat cancer through using two key strategies: she has brought respected health professionals across the state to unify their talents in developing a Statewide Cancer Control Plan for SA and with the Board developed a new and bold five year strategic plan for Cancer Council SA. The main areas of work outlined in this plan cover research, prevention and support strategies.
