Cancer Connect

Cancer Connect offers people with cancer and their partners/carers an opportunity to talk with someone who has had a similar experience.

Our volunteers have all had training and have themselves experienced cancer or cared for someone with cancer. They have had a range of different cancers and cancer treatments including colorectal, ovarian, melanoma, prostate, breast, myeloma and head/neck.

Cancer Connect is confidential and is offered free of charge to people living in metropolitan and country areas.

One to one telephone contact before, during or after treatment provides an opportunity to talk with someone who can relate to what is happening when cancer comes into your life. They will not have the exact same experience - no one can because people are individual and treatments are tailored to this. They will, however, have insights that people who haven’t had cancer or haven’t cared for someone with cancer can’t possibly have. The volunteers may provide practical advice and talk about resources available in the community.

Cancer Connect aims to bring people together around some common ground such as age, treatment and other things like social situation so that this may add to mutual understanding. Clearly the role of the program is to complement the expert team and they do this by ensuring they do not give out medical advice or interfere with any professional care.
